A Vision of Athena

Athena, Angel of Strength & Wisdom

Athena came to me in a vision while on a run last year in May 2020, 2 weeks before the BLM movement ignited through our country.

She presented herself with beautiful dark skin, of African descent.

At first, I was like, “um, I’m pretty sure Athena is from Greek mythology, right…?”

I did some research - and I found out that there are historians that discovered the lure of Athena may have actually begun from African culture. Some historians believe in the 18th century, scholars changed the story of Athena and other Greek gods away from African culture due to racist reasons.*

I can’t make this stuff up!

That’s how Athena revealed herself to me, as an angel instead of a goddess, with dark skin and exquisite beauty, sharing her message of strength and wisdom with a stern and determined look in her eyes.

Why does she look so fierce? 🦅

Two weeks after my Athean vision, the “black-out day” on social media happened and exploded the Black Lives Matter movement 🖤(aka: all lives matter movement.)

Was she telling me something?

Telling US something???

She knew what was happening before we even saw it coming.💥

I started painting her last year, and unfortunately, when the BLM movement expanded, I froze up.

I couldn’t continue to paint her.

I felt like I didn’t deserve to paint her. I felt like I didn’t understand, couldn’t understand in my heart the suffering that people go through every day because of their race.💔

How could I possibly bring this message to the world, and why would I be worthy of it?

This year, she came back to me. Thank goodness she didn’t give up on me. She gave me time to explore, educate myself, and find my voice. Now she’s back with a ferocity and beauty that I just can’t explain with words.
